Maintenance windows

Learn how to schedule planned downtime, one-off or repeating, so it does not alert or count against uptime.

This page explains how to schedule planned downtime so it does not alert, open incidents, or count against uptime. Windows live on the project's Maintenance page and are managed by the project's owner or an admin.

#What a window does

While a window is active, the monitors it covers are not checked:

  • No alert fires and no incident opens for them. An incident that was already open stays open, unchanged, until checks resume.
  • The recent-checks bar records the skipped slots as gaps, and the uptime figure leaves them out entirely.
  • The public status page lists the window under Scheduled maintenance, as In progress or Scheduled, with the services it covers and its times in UTC. A day with no checks shows as No data on the page.
  • Heartbeat pings are still accepted, but a heartbeat is not marked down while its window is active.

Checks resume at the next slot after the window ends.

#Schedule a window

  1. Open the project's Maintenance page and choose Schedule window.
  2. Enter a title of up to 60 characters and, if you like, a description of up to 280.
  3. Under Apply to, choose All monitors or pick the monitors to cover.
  4. Set Starts and Ends. Times are entered in your browser's local time. The defaults are one hour from now and two hours from now.
  5. To repeat the window, turn on Repeat, choose Every day or Every week, pick the weekdays for a weekly window, and choose whether it ends Never or On a date.
  6. Save.

A repeating window keeps the start time and the duration of its first occurrence and repeats it on each selected day until its end date.

#Change or end a window

Windows cannot be edited. To change one, delete it and schedule it again. Deleting an active window ends it at once, and the monitors it covered are checked again from the next slot.

#Limits

PlanLive windows per project
Free1
Pro10
TeamUnlimited

A window counts as live while its end is in the future, or while a repeating series has no end date or an end date in the future. Past windows stay listed as Ended for 7 days on the free plan, 30 on Pro, and 90 on Team.

Pause or maintenance?

Pause a monitor when you want it to stop until you say otherwise. Schedule a window when the downtime has a known end, or recurs, and you want it on the status page.
