Custom domain
Learn how to serve a status page from your own hostname with a CNAME record.
This page explains how to serve a status page from your own hostname, such as status.yourco.com, instead of its uptimex.co handle.
#Prerequisites
- A published status page.
- Pro or Team. Pro allows 1 custom domain per account and Team allows 3.
- The owner or admin role in the project, signed in to the dashboard.
- Access to the DNS records of the domain.
The hostname must be a subdomain of a domain you control, with at least three labels, such as status.yourco.com. An apex domain such as yourco.com cannot be used.
#Connect the domain
- In your DNS provider, add a
CNAMErecord for the subdomain pointing atcname.uptimex.co. Forstatus.yourco.comthe record name isstatus. If your provider proxies records, turn the proxy off for this one: it must be DNS only. - In the status page's settings, under Custom domain, enter the hostname without
https://and choose Connect. - UptimeX registers the hostname and requests a certificate for it. The status shows Pending until the DNS record is visible and the certificate is issued, then Active. Choose Check status to re-check. The settings page also re-checks each time you open it.
- Once Active, the page answers at
https://status.yourco.comwith a certificate that renews on its own. Theuptimex.cohandle keeps working too.
If the status shows Error, the record is usually missing or has not propagated yet. Fix the record, wait for DNS to catch up, and choose Check status again.
#Replace or disconnect
Connecting a different hostname replaces the current one. Disconnect removes the hostname and the page goes back to its handle only. Switching the page to Unpublished stops the custom domain answering as well.
#Errors
| Message | Cause |
|---|---|
| Custom domains are included from the Pro plan. | The project's owner is on the free plan. |
| You've connected as many custom domains as your plan allows. | 1 domain on Pro or 3 on Team are already connected on the account. Disconnect one first. |
| Enter a valid subdomain (e.g. status.yourco.com). | The hostname has fewer than three labels, contains a scheme or a path, or is not a hostname you can use. |
| Custom domains aren't available yet. Try again later. | The domain service is unavailable. |
Plan changes
If the account later allows fewer domains than it has connected, the oldest ones keep working up to the new limit and the rest stop answering until you disconnect some or upgrade again.
#What's next?
- Publish a status page: everything else on the settings page.
- Plans and limits: custom domains by plan.
